In January 2012, Engineer Tang Bo from Foton Motor visited Jinheng Company to conduct a technical exchange with colleagues. The main topics included rollover tests for large buses and compliance with the ECE-R66 regulation, as well as discussions on installing airbags in large buses and the necessary calibration procedures. Additionally, the conversation covered the ECE-R29-03 regulation for heavy trucks, methods for matching airbags to heavy-duty vehicles, and key tasks that need to be addressed. Tang Bo also shared insights into the construction and planning of a large-scale crash test facility, noting that Foton Motor is preparing to build an advanced crash testing lab during the 13th Five-Year Plan period. As the project director, he has already conducted extensive preliminary research and invited leading global suppliers to collaborate with Foton on technical exchanges, presenting detailed plans for multi-angle crash testing facilities to Jinheng’s team. Another highlight was his lecture at this year’s Crash Safety Conference, where he explained the fundamental principles behind airbag deployment. He also discussed ongoing research efforts related to C-NCAP 2012 standards, N1-class truck collision regulations, and European NCAP initiatives—areas in which he actively participates as an industry expert by contributing to standard development and research. Lastly, Tang Bo engaged in a fruitful discussion with Jinheng’s colleagues about the future of child safety seats in China. A central topic of debate was whether child seats should be classified as maternal and infant products or automotive accessories. Notably, Tang Bo recently conducted surveys among numerous child seat manufacturers, uncovering several critical challenges that were thoroughly examined during the meeting.
